New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain pleaded guilty Wednesday to a Nebraska charge of drunken driving and was given probation. Chamberlain Chamberlain After a plea deal, prosecutors dropped the second charge of driving with an open alcohol container.
Chamberlain, 23, played for Nebraska in college. He was pulled over Oct. 18 by police on the outskirts of Lincoln. Authorities say his blood-alcohol level was 0.134 percent. The legal limit in Nebraska is 0.08 percent. “You probably worked long and hard to get where you are today,” Judge Laurie Yardley said before sentencing Chamberlain to nine months’ probation. “It takes about 10 seconds to wipe all that out.” Chamberlain nodded and said, “Yes, ma’am,” and Yardley told him “don’t come back.”
He’ll also pay a $400 fine, lose his license for 60 days and complete an alcohol education class. “I am glad to put the legal aspect of this behind me,” Chamberlain said in a statement Wednesday. “I made a mistake and hope over time to turn this into a positive learning experience for me and others.” Chamberlain’s court date had been rescheduled four times, most recently from Tuesday to Wednesday.
He flew to Nebraska for his hearing in Lincoln after pitching 5 1/3 innings in New York’s 6-3 win over Cincinnati on Tuesday during a spring training game in Florida.
How is that possible? As a Yankee slugger, you make $20 million a year and you can’t pay your bills allegedly because your money is frozen in the alleged ponzi scheme Stanford Bank?! You’re trying to tell me that you (1) put all your money in one place, (2) don’t have any liquid cash anywhere else, (3) don’t have enough money coming in on a bi-weekly basis to cover your expenses, (4) have many bills anyway?! I just don’t get it.
If you make $20 mil a year, that’s about a mil every two weeks. You’re telling me that JD can’t get by on that?! That’s scary. That’s just weird and scary and I would like someone to explain to me how this could possibly be logical because I find it a little bit offensive.
Joe Torre is set to release a book chronicling his legendary time as General Manager of the New York Yankees, and in it he’s pulling no punches. Torre slams both Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez and official Brian Cashman, but his harshest words are reserved for A-Rod.
The New York Post reports that Torre claims in the book that Rodriguez’s teammates dubbed him “A-Fraud” after the three-time Most Valuable Player developed an obsession with Yankees captain Derek Jeter.
Torre also claims that Rodriguez asked for a personal clubhouse attendant to run errands for him.
