Words from our listeners about Breastfeeding

DISCLAIMER: We received this from Block FM listeners! This is NOT our words. We DO NOT endorse what is written but rather wanted to expose both sides of the argument.

Sent today at 12:12PM from an anonymous listener:

Message: Hello!  I would like to ask a favor?  Could you please tweet to feminist breeder that her coworkers are really disappointed that all she does is tweet all day when she should be working?  Thanks.  We here at her office, would really appreciate it if she could get back to work.

ejgbriggsRT @kmakice Someone should sic the #motrinmoms on @TimMihalsky. Hope any future mother of his children listens to this: http://bit.ly/qG80d

FeministBreeder@enithhernandez I can’t wait till those “girls” grow up & have kids and realize what a pig @timmihalsky really is #breastfeeding #bfing

BabyDefenderI guess @TimMihalsky cant handle real debate,he’s having a woman in show tomorrow (100% on his side) but not 1 of us. boohoo! #breastfeeding

enithhernandez@FeministBreeder totally agree! @TimMihalsky dont get it. BREAST are for BREASTfeeding, WHY ON EARTH WE MAKE MILK. He’s just a boy I guess.

natmluvspradaI think @timmihalsky needs to drink a bottle of formula like @dudetodad (milk tv) did then tell us his opinion on baby food

Boomstone@TimMihalsky Just I’ve never seen anyone with a baby in that kinda venue…I wouldn’t. Seems somewhat irresponsible?

BUncensored@TimMihalsky Its natural but not for the publics viewing pleasure. Don’t sweat the slack, if u had advocated for it they’d hate on that too.

ToniRaquelLOL RT @FeministBreeder We all know that as soon as @CassieRWilliams does become a BFing mom, she’ll want to cut @timmihalsky ‘s balls off.

thecatenelson@earth_mommy It’s also this “Breastfeeding Bigot”, also known as @TimMihalsky. Now threatening with lawyers. Get a clue!

hughesCourtney@TimMihalsky they’re only attacking you because you’re one of the only people who said exactly the same thing that others have thought.

titicuervo@TimMihalsky I agree with you & I’m tired of people trying to justify doing that in public…it’s not right to be topless in public.period.

shade_buraTruly hope that @CassieRWilliams or @timMihalsky ‘s gf never suffer the humiliation their words have caused others to feel. Peace.

cfoutzRT @FeministBreeder: Lesson of the Week: Anti-Breastfeeding Bigots come in both Penis and Vagina flavors (@TimMihalsky & @CassieRWilliams)

innerwizdom@TimMihalsky My impression is that u don’t want other dudes checkin out ur lady & that seeing a bare, sexy breast was like porn in public 4u

jbakley@TimMihalsky @CassieRWilliams Great show! I really liked your first two guests! :) They echoed what I wrote in my blog yesterday on BFing!

enithhernandez.@TimMihalsky also, ur guest said that she didnt want to be forced to watch a bfing mother, no one FORCED u to do that. Totally twisted.

SoCalFirefly@cassierwilliams @timmihalsky listening to the show now! i appreciate ur cont’d debate since these same people called me idiotic and…

mercedes_JJ@TimMihalsky Hiya, I use this cover when in public, its a godsend http://bit.ly/H16zg

onefinebreederRT @TimMihalsky: @onefinebreeder no actually well keep going until you extremists are shutup #breastfeeding / LOL good luck with that

One email sent in to Buzz@TheBlockFM.com:

Message: Have you done you’re research about Mrs. Gina Crosley-Corcoran (feministbreeder -maiden name Gina Crosley) because if you take a little bit of time, you can easily see that the way she is conducting herself is nothing unusual. She doesn’t like to hear anything that she doesn’t agree with, no matter what, thus if you DO say something to her she doesn’t like, well, then all sorts of negative comments about you in general come out.

Here are a few interesting links I looked up quickly:

***http://twitter.com/VelvetCoinPurse (her ‘other’ slutty Twitter- she talks about it a million times on her regular Twitter)

***http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?showall=true&bookmarkedmessageid=40&boardid=40&threadid=16943 (“some of the ladies” refers to Crosley-Corcoran)

As you know, she is also a mom– well, that’s when she’s home. She has a 3 yr old and a 1 1/2 yr old and between working ft (w ~1hr commute each way), going to school ft (commute each way is around 30min- 1hr), and running AN ILLEGAL cake business from her house (gimmecakes.com), how can she be a mom if she is NEVER home?

This is only some info, but I thought this might help to illustrate the type of character this Mrs. Crosley-Corcoran that you’re dealing with is). Thank you.

Breast feeding in public. Good or bad?

Tim’s conversation with people about breast feeding.

TimMihalsky: The lady infront of me is breastfeeding her baby at a Dodger game. No shame
Kblogger: Why should she be ashamed? @TimMihalsky She’s feeding her baby. Bet you’re drinking/eating. No difference. Don’t like it, don’t look.
TimMihalsky: I just think it is rude to do in a group setting. Go in private.
Kblogger: Why? Its less rude to stare & make snide comments??
FeministBreeder: @TimMihalsky CA protects a woman’s right to breastfeed IN PUBLIC. Say something to her, you’ll get kicked outta the ballpark. Try it.
FeministBreeder: @TimMihalsky “as you see it” is discrimination against a protected group. You gonna tell the minorities to go stand in the back now?
Bfmom: @TimMihalsky Good for her for having no shame. More women should have no shame nursing in public. There’s nothing shameful about it!
JupiterSinclair: @TimMihalsky i love the Dodgers, too.I wouldn’t miss part of the game because my nursing baby is hungry.Watch the game, not the boob, dude.

Facebook ruining your relationship?

Never mind the perils of cyber-stalking, cyber-bullying and posting photos that could endanger your future job prospects: Facebook could be ruining your relationship and driving you toward compulsively jealous behavior.

Social psychologists from the University of Guelph in Canada queried college students who were in romantic relationships about their Facebook use. Their preliminary findings, described in the journal CyberPsychology & Behavior, suggest that rather than enhancing communication between romantic partners, Facebook use may be fueling wild flights of jealous investigation, as users in relationships perceive hints of potential infidelity and then scramble to find evidence of a partner’s unfaithful thoughts or behavior.

Invariably, it seems, they end up feeling more jealous.

And where does this lead? For some participants in the study, these investigations led to searching behavior they described as “addictive.” And the bouts of escalating jealousy, say the researchers, cannot be good for a relationship.

While the survey was of college students, the researchers surmised that Facebook might unleash the same dynamics in adult relationships. Certainly, they noted, it’s worth further research.

The research team responsible for the latest survey has previously found that young adults’ need for popularity led them to disclose far more personal information on Facebook than they would reveal in the course of ordinary social contact.

Harvard University is launching a contemporary menswear line called Harvard Yard.
The university just signed a ten-year licensing deal with Wearwolf Group, a major clothing manufacturer.
The clothes won’t say “Harvard University” on them or don the schools colors except in the fine details (think crimson buttonholes) as they aren’t geared toward their own students, but a larger contemporary male demographic.
The line, which will range in price from $165 for pants to $495 for sport coats, was inspired by photos of students lounging in Harvard Yard in the ’60s.

ASHTON KUTCHER TWEETS FOR OBAMA

If you’re a regular reader of Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter feed (and you very well may be, as the actor and prankster has over 2.5 million followers), you may have done a double take when he tweeted on Sunday that the White House had asked him to help get the word out about National HIV Testing Day.”I’ve been asked by the white house to twet this” wrote Kutcher, who provided a link to a White House blog post and accompanying video noting the 14th commemoration of National HIV Testing Day. But did the White House really reach out to Kutcher and ask him to promote their initiative? Or was Kutcher just trying to “punk” us and make us think he’s oh-so-cool because he’s in touch with the White House?

Turns out: Kutcher wasn’t lying. The White House confirmed that it did, in fact, seek Kutcher’s help in promoting the blog post.

“As technology impacts how and where people are communicating online, we are constantly looking for new ways to engage with the public,” said White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin. “Our efforts to promote National HIV Testing Day included participation from popular users of Twitter, as well as broad social media engagement by agencies across the government.”

Kutcher was one part of the strategy: The White House has also provided online and text message resources to help people find a local testing site, launched a Twitter hashtag on the subject (#NHTD09) and set up e-cards that individuals can use to encourage others to get tested for HIV/AIDS.

And this isn’t the first time the Obama administration has gotten involved with Twitter. Earlier this month, the State Department asked Twitter to postpone a scheduled shutdown in order to aid anti-government protesters in Iran

CATS IN MIAMI CAN SLEEP EASIER TONIGHT…
Cats in Miami can sleep soundly again: An 18-year-old has been arrested on charges including 19 counts of animal cruelty, hopefully putting to an end the spate of crime that left nearly three dozen cats mutilated and dead. The cats were found beaten, skinned, and sliced open.

WHY ARE GAS PRICES RISING?

The average price per gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $2.66, up 16.68 cents from two weeks ago, the Lundberg Survey found.

The price, an average of thousands of gas stations nationwide, is $1.34 lower than a year ago. Last year in June, retail gas prices were nearing $4, and stayed at that level or above until late July.

The most recent increase is not a reflection of increased demand, according to survey publisher Trilby Lundberg.

“It’s a direct result of continued increases in the price of crude, with crude oil itself responding to a flight from the weaker dollar on the expectation of rising inflation from federal monetary policy,” Lundberg said.

“Demand is not increasing. It is shrinking.”

RACIST REPUBS

South Carolina GOP activist and former chairman of the state elections commission Rusty DePass has apologized for saying a gorilla that escaped from a zoo was an “ancestor” of Michelle Obama.

The controversy started when FITSNews, a local politics Website, obtained a screengrab of DePass’s comment on Facebook.

After an aide to state Attorney General Henry McMaster detailed the escape of the gorilla from Columbia’s Riverbanks Zoo, DePass responded with a comment: “I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors – probably harmless.”

DePass later admitted to WIS News that he was referring to Michelle Obama and said, “I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest.”

DePass, who was a county co-chair for Rudy Giuliani’s 2008 campaign, supported the push to impeach President Bill Clinton in the late 90s, writing in an op-ed for The State, “Do Republicans have higher moral standards than Democrats?”

MINUTEMEN ARRESTED IN SHOOTING

An outspoken anti-immigration activist from Everett has been arrested in Arizona in connection to a deadly home invasion robbery.

Shawna Forde, the executive director of the Minutemen American Defense, is one of three accused in the shooting deaths of 29-year-old Raul Flores and his daughter, 9-year-old Brisenia Flores, at their home in Arivaca, Ariz., a town 10 miles north of the Mexican border.

Two others – 34-year-old Jason Bush and 42-year-old Albert Gaxiola – were arrested. All three have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of aggravated assault.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, two men and a woman posing as police officers forced their way into the Flores ‘ home in the middle of the night on May 30.

The government looking at expanding a pioneering scheme in Flint, one of the poorest US cities, which involves razing entire districts and returning the land to nature.

Local politicians believe the city must contract by as much as 40 per cent, concentrating the dwindling population and local services into a more viable area.

Following their “ordeal” in the Lost Chamber, during which the Pratts prayed for attention, “Jesus delivered” them, but then we guess Jesus decided to have a laugh at them too because Heidi began throwing up with “the evil coming out of” her.
Apparently it was the final straw for the couple, who left the camp to seek medical attention.
We’re told that Montag was truly very sick. And, hey, now they can continue to be media whores in Los Angeles, where they belong.

Kelly Rutherford, better known as Lily van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, has given birth to a baby girl!
Rutherford popped around 10 p.m. in Los Angeles on Monday night, but no word on the tiny tot’s name just yet. She’ll be joining 2-year-old brother Hermes at home.
Not surprisingly, Kelly’s ex-husband and father of both children, Daniel Giersch, was not at the hospital at the time of the birth. The two are smack in the middle of a nasty custody battle with Rutherford claiming the children are not safe around her former husband.

“I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear I’m gay,” American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert tells the new issue of Rolling Stone. “I’ve been living in Los Angeles for eight years as a gay man. I’ve been at clubs drunk making out with somebody in the corner.”
Lambert says he decided to wait to come out in Rolling Stone because it would be “cooler.”
He explains, “Right after the finale, I almost started talking about it to the reporters, but I thought, ‘I’m going to wait for Rolling Stone, that will be cooler.’ I didn’t want the Clay Aiken thing and the celebrity-magazine bullshit. I need to be able to explain myself in context. I’m proud of my sexuality. I embrace it. It’s just another part of me.”
According to Rolling Stone, Adam was open about his sexuality backstage at Idol. Lambert admits that he was nervous about coming out while Idol was still on the air because contestants are under a media embargo, preventing them from talking to reporters, and he wanted to do it on his “own terms.” (He also says producers were open to him handling it however he wanted to.)

Mark Paul Gosselar visited Jimmy Fallon’s talk show last night as his beloved Save By The Bell character. Even pulled out his cell phone

Uh oh! We were wondering about this one. When Entertainment Wise ran a story that Emma Watson essentially confirmed Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s relationship, we were skeptical that the Harry Potter starlet would say something like that, but hopeful that it might be true.
Well, we contacted Emma’s publicist, who then told X17online that the article is “completely ficticious” and “Emma has never given this interview, nor made any of these comments.” Additionally, after receiving our e-mail, Emma’s PR team has since gotten the website to take down the story, so there you have it – Emma never said it!

Oh, Lindsay Lohan. Whatever will we do with you?
One minute she resembles the smidgen of normal we once knew her as and the next she looks all crazy again!
La Loca spent Thursday evening in Londontown, first dining at the Zuma restaurant with friends and then finishing off the night by partying at the Cuckoo Club.

Lance Armstrong announced the birth of his fourth child via Twitter on Thursday.
He Tweeted: “Wassup, world? My name is Max Armstrong and I just arrived. My Mommy is healthy and so am I!”
He added that the baby boy “weighed in at 7 lbs. 5 oz and is 20 inches long.”

According to MSNBC: “He is such a diva. Rude to everyone – from fans right down to the lighting folks,” says a source who interacted with him on his recent publicity tour.
Sounds like somebody’s gettin’ a little too big for their britches!!
Staff at the New York tour stop have even said that A-list celebs they’ve dealt with in the past have been “infinitely more polite” than Glambert.
An anonymous music producer pitched in his two cents: “No one sells that many records these days to be able to get away with that kind of behavior. To be a success you need literally everyone in your corner.”

She hasn’t had a hit record in years, but somehow the blonde “country singer” purchased a speedboat for boyfriend Tony Romo’s 29th birthday.
The price tag? Just a mere $100,000!
The boat is a custom 25-foot Malibu Wakesetter.
Are we sure she didn’t get the boat for free or lease it?
According to an inside source, “Jessica knows that Tony has always wanted a boat.” Adding that she’s “hoping that her birthday gift will lead to marriage, and by this time next year she’ll be walking down the aisle with him.”

What happens when you die?

Your husband, an avid gamer and techie, dies of a heart attack, leaving his vast online life — one you don’t know much about — in limbo.

His accounts, to which you don’t know the passwords, go idle. His e-mails go unanswered, his online multiplayer games go on without him and bidders on his eBay items don’t know why they can’t get an answer from the seller.

Web site domains that he has purchased, some of which are now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, will expire, and you may never know.

It’s a scenario that’s becoming more likely as we spend more of our lives online. And it’s raising more questions about what happens to our online lives after we log off for the final time.

But now, as online usage increases and social-media sites soar in popularity, more companies are popping up to try and fill that void created in your digital life after death.

Jeremy Toeman, founder of the site Legacy Locker, recognized that when he was on a plane and wondered what would happen to his online life if it crashed. While his will leaves everything to his wife, including all of his digital assets, Toeman realized how difficult it would be for her to access his accounts.

“My GoDaddy account would belong to her, but it doesn’t solve the practical reality of how she would get access to it,” he said. He experienced a similar scenario after his grandmother died, and he tried to get the password for her e-mail account — only to give up because of the hassle.

So Toeman built his company to change all that. Legacy Locker allows users to set up a kind of online will, with beneficiaries that would receive the customer’s account information and passwords after they die.

“We know it’s a hard thing to think about — to get people to face mortality. We know it’s kind of morbid, but for those who live their entire lives online, it’s also very real.”

A Legacy Locker account costs $29.99 a year. Users can set up their accounts to specify who gets access to their posthumous online information, along with “legacy letters,” or messages, that can be sent to loved ones.

“Based on our members’ feedback, I’d have to say that virtual memorial sites are gaining popularity with the public as a very practical alternative to being present at the grave site,” he added. “There’s nothing ‘weird’ about them as far as we have seen.”

“There are funeral homes out there that will help families create virtual memorials, but … we’ve also seen Facebook and MySpace profiles of deceased persons being turned into memorials,” agreed Jessica Koth, spokesperson for the National Funeral Directors Association. “Consumers have become increasingly comfortable with expressing their grief online.”

“While not a replacement for a funeral, online memorialization can help people work through their grief after the funeral,” she added. “We’ve all become accustomed to communicating and expressing ourselves electronically — via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter. Expressing one’s grief online is an outgrowth of what’s happening in other areas of our lives.”

SOCIAL NETWORKING…GOOD FOR KEEPING IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH THOSE THAT MATTER MOST…

What are Twitter and MySpace and Facebook good for? Apparently, to get a mob together to swarm all over Broad Street in Philadelphia, carjacking and attacking people. Just good, wholesome criminal activity. Nice to see the kids getting away from the computers and cell phones for some outdoor activity.

“It’s kind of a new dynamic that’s growing, with large groups of juveniles using the social networks to get out the word,” said Lt. Frank Vanore, the department’s spokesman. “We’re not going to tolerate it.”

A group of teens on foot hijacked a taxi at 12th and South Street after getting into a confrontation with the driver and drove the vehicle into a tree at 12th and Fitzwater. Two passengers were injured slightly, police said.

Other youths pulled a woman and her passenger from a Jeep and assaulted them and stole the driver’s purse. The driver is a paralegal from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office, Vanore said.

Marauding teens, most between the ages of 14 and 17, also vandalized a Sunoco convenience store at Broad and Catharine Streets, he said.

Several juveniles were charged with violating the midnight curfew, Vanore said, but none were arrested for the more serious incidents.

Where do we draw the line?

The explosion of Twitter and Facebook use by newspapers this spring has sparked a mixed bag of reaction from editors and other newsroom leaders over how to control — or not control — the use by their staffs.

The Wall Street Journal raised attention this week when it expanded its conduct guidelines to include a whole host of online-related restrictions, including warnings not to “friend” confidential sources or get into Web-related arguments with critics. Others have issued guidelines.

But not everyone is laying down the law on Twitter, say editors. Some want staffers to have a casual, open approach, while others admit they aren’t sure how to police the social media outlets and still allow them to be useful. “I have asked people to use common sense and respect the workplace and assume whatever they tweet will be tied to the paper,” said Bill Keller, executive editor of The New York Times, who started tweeting (sparingly) himself just last week. “Even when they are tweeting personal information to their followers, they are still representing the New York Times.”

Earlier this week, Keller held his semi-annual meeting with staffers, in which he says he “made a point of asking people to apply common sense whether it is a public speech, a radio appearance or anything like Twitter — use their noggin,” he recalls. But he said no specific rules have been added for Twitter and Facebook, although he acknowledged staff workshops have been held to teach reporters the best use of Twitter.

The New York Times also had a bit of an internal controversy when several reporters at a Monday meeting posted items about it on their own Twitter accounts.

The New York Observer reports that the leaking tweets led to several online stories at Gawker and The Guardian. Later, at Keller’s meeting, he reportedly brought up the issue, noting a need for a “zone of trust” and less spreading of such internal events via tweets.
