Gene Robinson’s Inaugural Prayer…So Good

“O God of our many understandings, we pray that you will bless us with tears – tears for a world in which over a billion people exist on less than a dollar a day, where young women in many lands are beaten and raped for wanting an education, and thousands die daily from malnutrition, malaria, and AIDS.

Bless this nation with anger – anger at discrimination, at home and abroad, against refugees and immigrants, women, people of color, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.

Bless us with discomfort at the easy, simplistic answers we’ve preferred to hear from our politicians, instead of the truth about ourselves and our world, which we need to face if we are going to rise to the challenges of the future.

Bless us with patience and the knowledge that none of what ails us will be fixed anytime soon, and the understanding that our new president is a human being, not a messiah.

Bless us with humility, open to understanding that our own needs as a nation must always be balanced with those of the world.

Bless us with freedom from mere tolerance, replacing it with a genuine respect and warm embrace of our differences.

Bless us with compassion and generosity, remembering that every religion’s God judges us by the way we care for the most vulnerable.

And God, we give you thanks for your child, Barack, as he assumes the office of President of the United States.

Give him wisdom beyond his years, inspire him with President Lincoln’s reconciling leadership style, President Kennedy’s ability to enlist our best efforts, and Dr. King’s dream of a nation for all people.
Give him a quiet heart, for our ship of state needs a steady, calm captain.

Give him stirring words; We will need to be inspired and motivated to make the personal and common sacrifices necessary to facing the challenges ahead.

Make him color-blind, reminding him of his own words that under his leadership, there will be neither red nor blue states, but the United States.

Help him remember his own oppression as a minority, drawing on that experience of discrimination, that he might seek to change the lives of those who are still its victims.

Give him strength to find family time and privacy, and help him remember that even though he is president, a father only gets one shot at his daughters’ childhoods.

And please, God, keep him safe. We know we ask too much of our presidents, and we’re asking far too much of this one. We implore you, O good and great God, to keep him safe. Hold him in the palm of your hand, that he might do the work we have called him to do, that he might find joy in this impossible calling, and that in the end, he might lead us as a nation to a place of integrity, prosperity, and peace. Amen.”

Palin Protected from “Witchcraft”

A video on her hometown church Web site shows Sarah Palin being blessed three years ago by a Kenyan pastor who prayed for her protection from “witchcraft” as she prepared to seek higher office.

The video, which made the rounds Wednesday on the Internet, shows Palin standing before Bishop Thomas Muthee in the pulpit of the Wasilla Assembly of God church, holding her hands open as he asked Jesus Christ to keep her safe from “every form of witchcraft.”

“Come on, talk to God about this woman. We declare, save her from Satan,” Muthee said as two attendants placed their hands on Palin’s shoulders. “Make her way my God. Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus. … Use her to turn this nation the other way around.”

The date of the sermon listed on the church Web site is Oct. 16, 2005. Palin formally announced her gubernatorial bid two days later and was elected the next year.

Sarah Palin’s Painful Interview

I’m really sorry, but if ANYONE thinks that this woman is prepared to lead our country, whether in the #1 or #2 spot….I seriously don’t even know what to say. But I do have to give some props where they are due. I thought Charlie Gibson was going to lob softballs at Palin and let her hide her ineptitude (which is difficult). But he didn’t. He really went after her and demanded that she answer some pressing questions – which she miserably failed to do. I mean, seriously, each answer was a debacle in and of itself. Here’s the interview for your own personal painful viewing.

And again, if you think that THIS is someone who is ready to lead our nation, if you think THIS is someone who is going to talk straight to the American public, if you think THIS is the type of person who will take us into a new age of progress and reform and strength, then you can get everything you deserve. Because this will NOT happen with my vote. And I hope to God you won’t let it happen with yours. Register today at Rock the Vote’s website and make sure to stand up against this madness on November 4.

McCain’s Insane “Spiritual Guide”

Sooooooooo we’re supposed to have separation of church and state in this country….riiiiiiight?! I thought so. So what gives? Why is it OK for our Presidential hopefuls to meet at a evangelical church and answer questions about their belief in evil and their ideas about Jesus Christ?! I am ALL for freedom of religion and for spirituality! Anyone who knows me knows how big a part my religious beliefs are in my own personal life. And yes, my religious beliefs do impact my political beliefs when my political beliefs are based on morals and values. But I’m not running for President. And I’m just not comfortable with all this theological jargon that is interwoven in our political system.

On a related note, we went through all these crazy days hearing of Barack Obama’s insane pastor, Rev. Wright, and how his rhetoric from the pulpit was extreme and possibly anti-American. Ok, we know the press loves this kind of stuff and eats it up…sooooooo, why are they ignoring McCain’s insane spiritual guide????!!!! No, I’m not talking about Rev. John Hagee (another friend and endorser of John McCain and firm believer in God’s wrath on New Orleans for its “homosexual sins” culminating in Hurricane Katrina), I’m talking about Rev. Rod Parsley.

Parsley has called on Christians to wage war against Islam, which he considers to be a “false religion.” I find this personally highly offensive – and whether or not you are religious, whether or not you are Muslim, if you live in this country and believe in our Constitution and Bill of Rights calling for Freedom of Religion, you will understand and appreciate that this guy is seriously RIDICULOUS.

But what’s astonishing is that John McCain actively (and received) Parsley’s endorsement in the presidential race. McCain has called Parsley “a spiritual guide” – that’s scary to me. It should be to you, too.

Since the media won’t question McCain about his Islamaphobic, insane, vicious, bigoted, narrow-minded, hostile, anti-Consitution, arrogant pastor, it’s up to YOU to forward this video to your family, friends, and colleagues or simply share the link to this blog. It’s easy.

BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD! FORCE OUR POLITICIANS TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUION AND THE BILL OF RIGHTS! ASK THE TOUGH QUESTIONS! DON’T STOP UNTIL YOU GET ANSWERS! VOTE OBAMA IN 2008!

Thanks to xtrekker for the heads up on this one! Keep ‘em comin’!
