American Idol runner up David Archuleta was known to have a weird and overbearing stage dad. It would seems that James Archuleta has a few more hobbies that exclude milking his talented son for cash.
Back in January, police in Midvale, Utah, busted a massage parlor called Queens Reiki. According to court documents, they found a female masseuse with a male client who admitted “receiving sexual gratification from said masseuse.” That male client, according to Sgt. John Salazar was none other than Archie’s dad, James!
James Archuleta pleaded no contest at his January hearing to patronizing a prostitute. He was then forced to pay a $582 court fee and complete a counseling class. At the end of this month, the case will be dismissed provided he doesn’t “repeat the crime.”
Besides causing some controversy, Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film, Bruno, has been raising some concern as well, especially within the gay community.
Several preview screenings for gay audiences have folks concerned that Bruno oversteps the fine line between satire and stereotype while missing its mark completely, likening Cohen’s portrayal of a gay man to “a white person appearing in blackface.”
According to insiders, however, Cohen has conducted “significant reshoots” with input from the sneak peeks.
And while that’s encouraging to hear, many worry that it may be too little too late, and that instead of laughing with Bruno, most audiences will be laughing at Bruno, thus laughing with the homophobia the film seeks to lampoon, instead of laughing at it.
Universal Pictures declined to comment on any possible reshoots prior to the July 10th release, but released a statement saying that “While any work that dares to address relevant cultural sensitivities might be misinterpreted by some or offend others, we believe the overwhelming majority of the audience will understand and appreciate the film’s inarguably positive intentions, which we’ve seen demonstrated whenever we have shown it.”
X17 caught Liv Tyler today, intervening in an instance of apparent child abuse as a woman hit a boy on his chest repeatedly on the street in Los Feliz in LA.
Tyler was driving alone and saw the incident taking place on the sidewalk – someone who appeared to be a grandmother or caretaker for a boy was screaming at him and hitting him on the chest as he sat in his stroller wailing.
Liv almost caused an accident and she hit the brakes, did a U-turn, and pulled over on the side of the road to reprimand the woman. Unfortunately the woman didn’t speak English and kept telling Tyler “No entiendo. (I don’t understand.)” Liv was telling her “You can’t do that! I’m going to call the police; I’m going to call Child Services!”
Liv tried to comfort the crying boy and when she finally walked away to go back to her car, she told X17 photographers, “When I saw that, I couldn’t take it. I had to do something.” Our photog said she was visibly disturbed.
