Eating healthy?

Those who deny themselves entire food groups or worry too much about the “purity” of their meals are risking their mental and physical well-being. Experts have reported a rise in such extreme behavior, which is known as orthorexia nervosa. Sufferers of orthorexia nervosa tend to be over 30, middle class and well-educated.

Orthorexia patients are different than anorexia patients, who restrict the quantity of food they eat. Sufferers of orthorexia, named after the Greek word for “right or true,” fixate on quality. Sufferers often eliminate sugar, salt, caffeine, alcohol, wheat, gluten, yeast, soya, corn and dairy foods from their diet. Foods tainted by pesticides or that contain additives such as MSG may also be ditched. Such habits may seem quirky, but they can have a serious effect on health.

Cutting out entire food groups can leave sufferers malnourished, while rigid rules can make eating out impossible, putting a huge strain on friendships and relationships.

Rack that credit card debt

Months before a new law restricts the credit-card industry’s ability to raise interest rates and charge fees, card issuers are scaling back programs that offer lucrative rewards such as frequent-flier miles and cash rebates.

Alaska Airlines says the cost of companion fares available through its Bank of America Visa Signature card will double from $50 to $99, effective Oct. 1. The airline also will eliminate the 2,000 free anniversary miles granted annually to cardholders, starting Dec. 31.

American Express will increase to $99 from $75 the maximum fee customers in its Membership Rewards program pay to transfer points to any U.S. airline loyalty program. In June, it decreased its rebate to Blue Cash cardholders for all purchases except everyday ones such as gas and groceries to 1.25 percent from 1.5 percent.

Discover has eliminated one of three tiers in its cashback program. Previously, customers received 0.25 percent of the first $1,500 spent, 0.5 percent for the next $1,500, and 1 percent for anything exceeding $3,000. They now will receive 0.25 percent back for the first $3,000 spent and 1 percent above that.

Citi has altered its travel-redemption program. Previously, customers could redeem a domestic round-trip airline ticket valued at up to $400 for every 20,000 points earned. The same ticket now would require 40,000 points.

The changes come after warnings from bank executives that the new law, which takes effect in February, will limit their ability to set interest rates and fees based on each borrower’s risk. That, in turn, would make lending money more expensive, forcing banks to withhold credit, charge new customers higher rates and increase annual fees, executives have argued. NO, it won’t make lending money more expensive…it will make it LESS profitable…

READER’S DIGEST FILES FOR CHAPTER 11
It’s hard to be in the magazine business these days. The Reader’s Digest Association, according to The New York Times, will “file for prearranged Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for its United States businesses within 30 days.” The company has already struck a deal with the majority of its banks to reduce its debt from $2.2 billion to $550 million, and does not expect to shutter any publications or lay off any employees. Under the restructuring plan the association’s value will plummet, and its owner Ripplewood Holdings will shed its board seats and shares, leaving the existing debtholders to become the new owners.

WHY WASN’T I IN GLENDORA YESTERDAY?
California authorities say a man caused a traffic jam when he threw money onto a Los Angeles-area freeway and people dashed into the lanes to grab the cash.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Kurt Stormes says the man tossed money from his car on Interstate 210 in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendora shortly before noon Sunday. Stormes says about 10 people ran into traffic lanes to get it. CHP officers recovered about $1,000.

TALK ABOUT BUSY!
Federal prosecutors on Monday charged a Miami man with the largest case of credit and debit card data theft ever in the United States, accusing the one-time government informant of swiping 130 million accounts on top of 40 million he stole previously.

Albert Gonzalez, 28, broke his own record for identity theft by hacking into retail networks, according to prosecutors, though they say his illicit computer exploits ended when he went to jail on charges stemming from an earlier case.

Gonzalez is a former informant for the U.S. Secret Service who helped the agency hunt hackers, authorities say. The agency later found out that he had also been working with criminals and feeding them information on ongoing investigations, even warning off at least one individual, according to authorities.

Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant with d-bag Scott Disick’s kid and is due in December. And if you’ve seen any of the Kardashians whore’d out shows, you will know that he is not that great of a guy and reportedly cheated on her.
This weekend, Khloe Kardashian spoke about her potential future brother-in-law saying that Scott’s “always been obsessed with Kourtney.” Adding that recently “he’s more — well, I don’t know if a man can be maternal, but he’s definitely becoming more maternal.”
As for the baby, Kourt is set to give birth in December and has already gained about 10 pounds, adding “I’m embracing it. I like when my body changes. I like seeing it. I run around naked all day at home. I think it’s like a beautiful thing.”

Sunday night’s premiere of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami on E! was the cable network’s biggest debut since 2002’s premiere of The Anna Nicole Show!!!
Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian’s premiere drew in a massive 2.7 million viewers and a 2.14 rating, topping every premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians by 49%!!!
The Kardashian sisters’ show even tied Anna Nicole in the ratings for their key demographic: women between 18-49!

Quentin Tarantino was on Howard Stern’s show on Monday to promote his new Pitt-starring flick, Inglorious Basterds and let it out about Brad.
Tarantino revealed he went to France to meet with Brad and pitch the movie. When the two got together, they hit it off, spoke about the film and drank about five bottles of wine.
But then Quentin adds that the “coolest” thing Pitt did was pull out a brick of hash and give him a piece of it!

I received this email regarding health care

Dear Friend,

This is probably one of the longest emails I’ve ever sent, but it could be the most important.

Across the country we are seeing vigorous d ebate about health insurance reform. Unfortunately, some of the old tactics we know so well are back — even the viral emails that fly unchecked and under the radar, spreading all sorts of lies and distortions.

As President Obama said at the town hall in New Hampshire, “where we do disagree, let’s disagree over things that are real, not these wild misrepresentations that bear no resemblance to anything that’s actually been proposed.”

So let’s start a chain email of our own. At the end of my email, you’ll find a lot of information about health insurance reform, distilled into 8 ways reform provides security and stability to those with or without coverage, 8 common myths about reform and 8 reasons we need health insurance reform now.

Right now, someone you know probably has a question about reform that could be answered by what’s below. So what are you waiting for? Forward this email.

Thanks,
David

David Axelrod
Senior Adviser to the President

P.S. We launched www.WhiteHouse.gov/realitycheck this week to knock down the rumors and lies that are floating around the internet. You can find the information below, and much more, there. For example, we’ve just added a video of Nancy-Ann DeParle from our Health Reform Office tackling a viral email head on. Check it out:

8 ways reform provides security and stability to those with or without coverage

  1. Ends Discrimination for Pre-Existing Conditions: Insurance companies will be prohibited from refusing you coverage because of your medical history.
  2. Ends Exorbitant Out-of-Pocket Expenses, Deductibles or Co-Pays: Insurance companies will have to abide by yearly caps on how much they can charge for out-of-pocket expenses.
  3. Ends Cost-Sharing for Preventive Care: Insurance companies must fully cover, without charge, regular checkups and tests that help you prevent illness, such as mammograms or eye and foot exams for diabetics.
  4. Ends Dropping of Coverage for Seriously Ill: Insurance companies will be prohibited from dropping or watering down insurance coverage for those who become seriously ill.
  5. Ends Gender Discrimination: Insurance companies will be prohibited from charging you more because of your gender.
  6. Ends Annual or Lifetime Caps on Coverage: Insurance companies will be prevented from placing annual or lifetime caps on the coverage you receive.
  7. Extends Coverage for Young Adults: Children would continue to be eligible for family coverage through the age of 26.
  8. Guarantees Insurance Renewal: Insurance companies will be required to renew any policy as long as the policyholder pays their premium in full. Insurance companies won’t be allowed to refuse renewal because someone became sick.

8 common myths about health insurance reform

  1. Reform will stop “rationing” – not increase it: It’s a myth that reform will mean a “government takeover” of health care or lead to “rationing.” To the contrary, reform will forbid many forms of rationing that are currently being used by insurance companies.
  2. We can’t afford reform: It’s the status quo we can’t afford. It’s a myth that reform will bust the budget. To the contrary, the President has identified ways to pay for the vast majority of the up-front costs by cutting waste, fraud, and abuse within existing government health programs; ending big subsidies to insurance companies; and increasing efficiency with such steps as coordinating care and streamlining paperwork. In the long term, reform can help bring down costs that will otherwise lead to a fiscal crisis.
  3. Reform would encourage “euthanasia”: It does not. It’s a malicious myth that reform would encourage or even require euthanasia for seniors. For seniors who want to consult with their family and physicians about end-of life decisions, reform will help to cover these voluntary, private consultations for those who want help with these personal and difficult family decisions.
  4. Vets’ health care is safe and sound: It’s a myth that health insurance reform will affect veterans’ access to the care they get now. To the contrary, the President’s budget significantly expands coverage under the VA, extending care to 500,000 more veterans who were previously excluded. The VA Healthcare system will continue to be available for all eligible veterans.
  5. Reform will benefit small business – not burden it: It’s a myth that health insurance reform will hurt small businesses. To the contrary, reform will ease the burdens on small businesses, provide tax credits to help them pay for employee coverage and help level the playing field with big firms who pay much less to cover their employees on average.
  6. Your Medicare is safe, and stronger with reform: It’s myth that Health Insurance Reform would be financed by cutting Medicare benefits. To the contrary, reform will improve the long-term financial health of Medicare, ensure better coordination, eliminate waste and unnecessary subsidies to insurance companies, and help to close the Medicare “doughnut” hole to make prescription drugs more affordable for seniors.
  7. You can keep your own insurance: It’s m yth that reform will force you out of your current insurance plan or force you to change doctors. To the contrary, reform will expand your choices, not eliminate them.
  8. No, government will not do anything with your bank account: It is an absurd myth that government will be in charge of your bank accounts.  Health insurance reform will simplify administration, making it easier and more convenient for you to pay bills in a method that you choose.  Just like paying a phone bill or a utility bill, you can pay by traditional check, or by a direct electronic payment. And forms will be standardized so they will be easier to understand. The choice is up to you – and the same rules of privacy will apply as they do for all other electronic payments that people make.

8 Reasons We Need Health Insurance Reform Now

  1. Coverage Denied to Millions: A recent national survey estimated that 12.6 million non-elderly adults – 36 percent of those who tried to purchase health insurance directly from an insurance company in the individual insurance market =E 2 were in fact discriminated against because of a pre-existing condition in the previous three years or dropped from coverage when they became seriously ill. Learn more: http://www.healthreform.gov/reports/denied_coverage/index.html
  2. Less Care for More Costs: With each passing year, Americans are paying more for health care coverage. Employer-sponsored health insurance premiums have nearly doubled since 2000, a rate three times faster than wages. In 2008, the average premium for a family plan purchased through an employer was $12,680, nearly the annual earnings of a full-time minimum wage job.  Americans pay more than ever for health insurance, but get less coverage. Learn more: http://www.healthreform.gov/reports/hiddencosts/index.html
  3. Roadblocks to Care for Women: Women’s reproductive health requires more regular contact with health care providers, including yearly pap smears, mammograms, and obstetric care. Women are also more likely to report fair or poor health than men (9.5% versus 9.0%). While rates of chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure are similar to men, women are twice as likely to suffer from headaches and are more likely to experience joint, back or neck pain. These chronic conditions often require regular and frequent treatment and follow-up care. Learn more: http://www.healthreform.gov/reports/women/index.html
  4. Hard Times in the Heartland: Throughout rural America, there are nearly 50 million people who face challenges in accessing health care. The past several decades have consistently shown higher rates of poverty, mortality, uninsurance, and limited access to a primary health care provider in rural areas. With the recent economic downturn, there is potential for an increase in many of the health disparities and access concerns that are already elevated in rural communities. Learn more: http://www.healthreform.gov/reports/hardtimes
  5. Small Businesses Struggle to Provide Health Coverage: Nearly one-third of the uninsured – 13 million people – are employees of firms with less than 100 workers. From 2000 to 2007, the proportion of non-elderly Americans covered by employer-based health insurance fell from 66% to 61%. Much of this decline stems from small business. The percentage of small businesses offering coverage dropped from 68% to 59%, while large firms held stable at 99%. About a third of such workers in firms with fewer than 50 employees obtain insurance through a spouse. Learn more: http://www.healthreform.gov/reports/helpbottomline
  6. The Tragedies are Personal: Half of all personal bankruptcies are at least partly the result of medical expenses. The typical elderly couple may have to save nearly $300,000 to pay for health costs not covered by Medicare alone. Learn more: http://www.healthreform.gov/reports/inaction
  7. Diminishing Access to Care: From 2000 to 2007, the proportion of non-elderly Americans covered by employer-based health insurance fell from 66% to 61%. An estimated 87 million people – one in every three Americans under the age of 65 – were uninsured at some point in 2007 and 2008. More than 80% of the uninsured are in working families. Learn more: http://www.healthreform.gov/reports/inaction/diminishing/index.html
  8. The Trends are Troubling: Without reform, health care costs will continue to skyrocket unabated, putting unbearable strain on families, businesses, and state and federal government budgets. Perhaps the most visible sign of the need for health care reform is the 46 million Americans currently without health insurance – projections suggest that this number will rise to about 72 million in 2040 in the absence of reform. Message: Have you done you’re research about Mrs. Gina Crosley-Corcoran (feministbreeder -maiden name Gina Crosley) because if you take a little bit of time, you can easily see that the way she is conducting herself is nothing unusual. She doesn’t like to hear anything that she doesn’t agree with, no matter what, thus if you DO say something to her she doesn’t like, well, then all sorts of negative comments about you in general come out.

She has a 3 yr old and a 1 1/2 yr old and between working ft (w ~1hr commute each way), going to school ft (commute each way is around 30min- 1hr), and running AN ILLEGAL cake business from her house (gimmecakes.com), how can she be a mom if she is NEVER home?

This is only some info, but I thought this might help to illustrate the type of character this Mrs. Crosley-Corcoran that you’re dealing with is). Thank you.

After weeks of speculation regarding the burial site, Michael Jackson has been laid to rest. The King of Pop was buried in an unmarked plot at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills over the weekend.
According to a cemetery source, the Jackson family and Forest Lawn management are the only people who know the location of the grave. Even the staff of the mortuary do not know the whereabouts of his burial.

It’s a new baby boy for View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her husband Tim.

Tim said in a statement, “Elisabeth and Isaiah are doing great and we’re excited about the addition of another baby boy into our family.”

ABC’s entertainment head was none too pleased by Katherine Heigl’s incessant whining on Late Night with David Letterman a few weeks ago.
Heigl whined to Letterman about the long hours on the Grey’s Anatomy set, among other things.
Said Katherine to Letterman: “Our first day back was Wednesday and it was — I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them — a 17-hour day, which I think is cruel and mean.”
Letterman responded, saying, “I’m guessing if you’re working 17 hours, that means you’re not dead.”

Levi Johnston — the 19-year-old kid who knocked up failed former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s teen daughter — hit the town with cougarlicious Kathy Griffin last night in L.A.
The 48-year-old “D-List” star took the young father to low key spots like the “Teen Choice Awards” and Katsuya.

Breast feeding in public. Good or bad?

Tim’s conversation with people about breast feeding.

TimMihalsky: The lady infront of me is breastfeeding her baby at a Dodger game. No shame
Kblogger: Why should she be ashamed? @TimMihalsky She’s feeding her baby. Bet you’re drinking/eating. No difference. Don’t like it, don’t look.
TimMihalsky: I just think it is rude to do in a group setting. Go in private.
Kblogger: Why? Its less rude to stare & make snide comments??
FeministBreeder: @TimMihalsky CA protects a woman’s right to breastfeed IN PUBLIC. Say something to her, you’ll get kicked outta the ballpark. Try it.
FeministBreeder: @TimMihalsky “as you see it” is discrimination against a protected group. You gonna tell the minorities to go stand in the back now?
Bfmom: @TimMihalsky Good for her for having no shame. More women should have no shame nursing in public. There’s nothing shameful about it!
JupiterSinclair: @TimMihalsky i love the Dodgers, too.I wouldn’t miss part of the game because my nursing baby is hungry.Watch the game, not the boob, dude.

Facebook ruining your relationship?

Never mind the perils of cyber-stalking, cyber-bullying and posting photos that could endanger your future job prospects: Facebook could be ruining your relationship and driving you toward compulsively jealous behavior.

Social psychologists from the University of Guelph in Canada queried college students who were in romantic relationships about their Facebook use. Their preliminary findings, described in the journal CyberPsychology & Behavior, suggest that rather than enhancing communication between romantic partners, Facebook use may be fueling wild flights of jealous investigation, as users in relationships perceive hints of potential infidelity and then scramble to find evidence of a partner’s unfaithful thoughts or behavior.

Invariably, it seems, they end up feeling more jealous.

And where does this lead? For some participants in the study, these investigations led to searching behavior they described as “addictive.” And the bouts of escalating jealousy, say the researchers, cannot be good for a relationship.

While the survey was of college students, the researchers surmised that Facebook might unleash the same dynamics in adult relationships. Certainly, they noted, it’s worth further research.

The research team responsible for the latest survey has previously found that young adults’ need for popularity led them to disclose far more personal information on Facebook than they would reveal in the course of ordinary social contact.

NOT WORTH IT

Harvard University is launching a contemporary menswear line called Harvard Yard.
The university just signed a ten-year licensing deal with Wearwolf Group, a major clothing manufacturer.
The clothes won’t say “Harvard University” on them or don the schools colors except in the fine details (think crimson buttonholes) as they aren’t geared toward their own students, but a larger contemporary male demographic.
The line, which will range in price from $165 for pants to $495 for sport coats, was inspired by photos of students lounging in Harvard Yard in the ’60s.

90 Seconds of News – 8/7/09

SO GLAD TO SEE OUR LOCAL OFFICIALS SO HARD AT WORK
Daniela Earnest of Tulare, California had her lemonade stand shut down by town officials. (It turns out the stand lacked proper business permits.) Daniela, who’s just seven years old, had the heartwarming goal to save enough money to send her family to Disney Land.
But, Daniela’s lemonade stand ran afoul of local authorities, who said that the fledgling business was located in a dangerous intersection. Daniela eventually pled her case in front of the town council, which vowed to help her family find a safer location.
The story’s happy ending? After seeing her story in the paper, a local radio station stepped in and came up with four day passes to Disney.
WOW, THOSE MALAYSIANS SURE KNOW HOW TO MAKE A POINT
A Malaysian teacher forced a student to smoke 42 cigarettes, four at a time for more than two hours as punishment after a cigarette and lighter were found in his locker, a news report said Thursday. “This is not normal. We don’t do that often,” said a school official! LOL!

CELEBRITY WEDDING NEWWWWWWWS!
News has come out that a Kenyan man offered 40 goats and 20 cows for Chelsea Clinton’s hand in marriage while Bill was still in the White House. Now, THAT is a special offer if I’ve ever heard of one.

MORE CONGRESSMEN PANDERING TO ISRAELI INTERESTS
“I don’t think we, in America, would want another country telling us how to implement and execute our laws,” Eric Cantor, minority whip said yesterday during his trip to the Middle East.

Hmmm, you’re right Eric. But we, in America, also don’t take $8 billion a year in aid and guaranteed loans from another country, and if we did, if our entire military existence depended on another country’s taxpayers’ generosity, guess what? We might have to heed their advice once in awhile. But because we for some reason pander to Israeli interests, contrary to the UN and the rest of the world, Israel thinks it can take MY money while giving us the finger and continuing its inhuman occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Not cool.

SUCK IT GLENN BECK!
Three companies who run ads during Glenn Beck — NexisLexis-owned Lawyers.com, Proctor & Gamble and Progressive Insurance — today distanced themselves from Beck. LexisNexis has pulled its advertising from Beck and says it has no plans to advertise on the program in the future. Both Proctor & Gamble and Progressive Insurance called the Beck advertising placements an error that they would correct.

POLICE STATE AT A’S GAME
Belligerent Santa, was clearly not happy about something going on at the A’s game last night. (A YouTube commenter who claims to have been sitting near where the incident took place said it was a loud Texas fan who was yelling inappropriately and got angry when he was asked to quiet down.

The officer pulled out his taser after talking to the man for 41 seconds and hit him at a little after the one minute mark — at which point he fell head first out of his seat on to the cement and rolled down several steps. I didn’t hear anybody laughing on the soundtrack to this movie. Maybe that’s because the sight of a drunk being shot with enough electricity to make him fall out of his chair onto cement stairs just isn’t so funny in real life. But we are all getting the message, aren’t we

EAST L.A. GOES LOCO FOR TACOS
A tagging crew has robbed at least 22 taco truck vendors at gunpoint over the last three months along busy commercial streets in East L.A., sheriff’s detectives said Thursday. The robberies have rattled the taco truck community, and officials said some vendors have been reluctant to report them for fear of retaliation from the tagging crew as well as problems with authorities.

CHRIS BROWN SNUBBED AT BET AWARDS
Chris Brown
is supposedly peeved not to have performed at the BET Awards Sunday, and all kinds of rumors are swirling about why that was. Some are claiming his participation in the Michael Jackson tribute-centric show wouldn’t have been in good taste following his drama with Rihanna. Others think the plug may have been pulled on Brown’s performance at Jay-Z’s behest. Either way, both BET and the “No Air” singer’s publicists claim the star was never confirmed to be on the show.

VOGUE EDITOR SAYS HIGH HEELS ARE SO YESTERDAY
IF we’re to judge by the Vogue editor André Leon Talley’s recent rant, fashion’s love affair with teetering footwear, or “torture chambers,” as he described them, may be waning. “Too many career women look like a herd of fashion beasts, aping one another in impractical shoes,” he spewed on the Vogue Web site.

ASHTON KUTCHER TWEETS FOR OBAMA

If you’re a regular reader of Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter feed (and you very well may be, as the actor and prankster has over 2.5 million followers), you may have done a double take when he tweeted on Sunday that the White House had asked him to help get the word out about National HIV Testing Day.”I’ve been asked by the white house to twet this” wrote Kutcher, who provided a link to a White House blog post and accompanying video noting the 14th commemoration of National HIV Testing Day. But did the White House really reach out to Kutcher and ask him to promote their initiative? Or was Kutcher just trying to “punk” us and make us think he’s oh-so-cool because he’s in touch with the White House?

Turns out: Kutcher wasn’t lying. The White House confirmed that it did, in fact, seek Kutcher’s help in promoting the blog post.

“As technology impacts how and where people are communicating online, we are constantly looking for new ways to engage with the public,” said White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin. “Our efforts to promote National HIV Testing Day included participation from popular users of Twitter, as well as broad social media engagement by agencies across the government.”

Kutcher was one part of the strategy: The White House has also provided online and text message resources to help people find a local testing site, launched a Twitter hashtag on the subject (#NHTD09) and set up e-cards that individuals can use to encourage others to get tested for HIV/AIDS.

And this isn’t the first time the Obama administration has gotten involved with Twitter. Earlier this month, the State Department asked Twitter to postpone a scheduled shutdown in order to aid anti-government protesters in Iran

JENNY SANFORD: A POLITICAL WIFE WORTH MODELING

Personally, I couldn’t care less about the personal “antics” of so many politicians these days. It’s not really important to my life how people like South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford characterizes “adventure travel.”

What does bother me a lot, though, is the money shot we so often see of the wives of philandering politicians — standing by the side of their husbands, trying to show solidarity and the apparently elusive family values that so many of them talk about before they get caught doing something, well, not so family values-like.

Why do I care? Because sooner rather than later, my nine-year-old daughter is going to start watching more news and she’ll see these women who have decided that even though their husbands have done something terrible to them, and to their families, there is still an obligation to stick with them. Personal decisions aside, it just seems that visual is the rule rather than the exception, these days. And the message it sends to our kids is that it’s okay for husbands to wander and that wives will still stick around, regardless of how badly they’ve been betrayed.

That is, until Jenny Sanford.

You had to guess that there was something up with the story of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford and his quick “decision” to change his trip from the Appalachian Trail to Buenos Aires! When the truth came out, as it always does, it was refreshing not to see his wife at his side, silently condoning what he’d done and the lies he had told.

That’s the example I want my daughter to see. Not that there isn’t a time and place for forgiveness, but I hate it when these Masters of the Universe get caught and we have to see their wives standing next to them, telling the world implicitly that what happened was okay.

Jenny Sanford is the example I want our children to learn from. She’s a strong woman in her own right, apparently gave her husband a chance to make things right when she learned about his affair and when he didn’t, there was no big scene — she just did what she knew she had to do for herself, her children and her own life.

Jenny Sanford was apparently instrumental in making Mark Sanford the political success he is today. According to the Washington Post, when asked about what the South Carolina governor was going to do now without her advice, she responded:

“His career is not a concern of mine. … He’s going to have to worry about that. I’m worried about my family and the character of my children.”

That’s a pretty refreshing response from a political spouse these days. It’s given me hope that in the future there will be space for the aggrieved spouse (’cause you know it’s going to happen again) to choose something other than the “standing by your man” photo op and sending a message that sometimes it’s better to do what’s right for your own life, regardless of the political consequences.
